More potable water for Adansi North communities

Fomena (Ash), May 17, GNA – The Adansi North District Assembly has embarked on an ambitious programme to provide potable water to all communities in its 35 electoral areas.

Already, the assembly had sunk 91 boreholes fitted with pumps in a number of communities at the total cost of 546,000 Ghana cedis. There are plans to sink additional 82 boreholes at an estimated cost of 615,000 Ghana cedis.

Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, the District Chief Executive announced these at a Garden City Radio (GCR) programme “Good Morning Ghana” at Fomena in Ashanti.

He said under the auspices of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), the assembly had constructed two Small Town Water Systems at Fumso and Dompoase at a cost of 290,000 Ghana Cedis and 184,150 Ghana cedis respectively.

The DCE said as part of the Fumso water system, nine institutional latrines were being constructed at Hwiremoase, Ahinsan, Fumso-Ketewa, Agogoso, Kojo-Nkwanta, Anomabo, Bukuruwaso and Mensahkrom. Mr Ameyaw said another Small Town Water System was to be undertaken at Fomena at the cost of 345,669 Ghana cedis and that the project had already been awarded on contract.

The DCE said the component of the Fomena project included the construction of an overhead tank and the erection of a number of public stand pipes at Fomena, Kusa and Ayaase. In addition, five institutional latrines had also been awarded on contract whilst over 200 household toilets were to be constructed in the district out of which 20 of such facilities had been completed. Mr Ameyaw further said the intensification of water and sanitation programmes was to enhance the health of the people in the district to improve productivity.
