More joining Health Insurance Scheme in Ajumako district

Ajumako (C/R), Oct. 25, GNA- The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District, Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), has as at the end of September this year registered a total 47,226 people. It has also derived a total amount of 41,253.63 cedis from the informal sector alone, Mr Kenneth Obempong; District Chief Executive for the area said this at the third ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Ajumako.

Mr Obempong said following effective education by officials of scheme and Assembly members, the people have now understood the scheme and are now registering.

He said the scheme has been able to mobilize resources to purchases office equipment for efficient running of the office. The DCE said the Assembly has received a total amount of GH=A28,000 from the Ghana Aids Commission for Non-Governmental Organisations and Community Based Organisations engaged in HIV/AID prevention education programmes.

He said two NGO’s and four Community Based Organisations have so far benefited from the amount, adding that the Assembly has drawn up comprehensive plans for the mitigation of the disease. Mr. Obempong said 60 of the 82 recruits registered under the Health Extension Assistants module have undergone training successfully and have been posted to health institutions in the district. Under sanitation, 36 out of 80 registered have been absorbed by Zoomlion a (Waste and sanitation) company and are currently working at various stations within the district, adding that 10 have also been engaged under the sanitation guards programme, he said. The DCE said the sanitation situation in the district has improved with the assistance of Zoomlion. 27th Oct. 07
