More join NHIS in Sekondi-Takoradi

Takoradi, Nov. 23, GNA-The Sekondi-Tarkoradi National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has so far registered 16,000 people and paid a total claim of 11,702.68 Ghana cedis as at August this year. Mr. Samuel Enfi, Scheme Manager, disclosed this to journalists after a mass registration exercise at Effiakuma near Takoradi. He said so far, 9,690 pregnant women have registered with the scheme and are enjoying free maternal health care while 6,706 above 60 years and 61,732 children under 18 years are also enjoying free services under the scheme as at August this year. Mr. Enfi said persons registered under the informal sector of the NHIS are 56,504.

According to him, the high patronage of the NHIS was promoting improved health care, reducing maternal mortality rates and saving people from dying unnecessarily from preventable disease. Mr. Enti therefore appealed to individuals who have not registered under the NHIS to do so without delay. He explained that the NHIS was the safest and most reliable health programme that every Ghanaian must be proud of and patronize. Mr. Enti said a mass registration under taker by the scheme registered 1,031.
