More awarded Chinese study Scholarships

The Chinese government has since 2010 trained more than 2,500 Ghanaians in various academic and professional fields under a human resource development programme, through scholarships and grants.

Miss Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, who announced this on the sidelines of a farewell party organized by the embassy for 90 Ghanaian students benefitting from this year’s version of the programme, said 570 people out of the figure have already been trained.

She said since the inception of the programme in 1984, this year’s beneficiaries constitute the highest for a year.

The selected students would be pursuing bachelors and master’s degree programmes in Mass Communication, Administrative and Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Information and Communication Engineering.

Additionally, the Chinese Embassy in Ghana has granted scholarships to 10 drop-out girls in the Eastern Region to support them to go back to school, whiles a special award package has been given to the University of Cape Coast, University of Ghana, and the Wisconsin International University to reward outstanding students who learn Chinese.

In the area of education infrastructure, she said her country has assisted the construction of educational facilities through grants to finance the “New Century Career Training Institute Expansion” Project in Accra, the campus of the University of Allied Health Sciences in Ho and three basic schools in rural areas of Western, Central and Greater Accra Regions among others.

Miss Baohong said under a programme named “China-Africa People to People Friendship Action, the Embassy has aided the refurbishment of two ICT laboratories in the Volta and Upper West Region with a third and fourth of the facilities under construction in the Upper East and Central Regions.
