Montie 3: Oye Lithur signs for presidential pardon

Gender Minister Nana Oye Lithur has joined calls for President John Mahama to grant a presidential pardon to the Montie three.

Her signing comes days after her husband, Tony Lithur, who is lawyer to the president, called on members of the NDC to desist from piling pressure on the President to release the three contemnors.

Mr. Lithur argued that such an action by the president will amount to undermining the judiciary and pitch the NDC against judges.

Meanwhile, NPP founding member Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe and education minister Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman have all signed the petition.

The petition book was opened after lawyers of the jailed three officially kick start the process to request a presidential intervention in the four-month jail term handed the contemnors by the Supreme Court.

Host of Montie FM’s political talk show ‘Pampaso’ Salifu Maase, popularly known as Mugabe, and two panelists, Alistair Nelson, and Godwin Ako Gunn both of the National Democratic Congress were jailed four months by the Supreme Court on Wednesday for contempt.

Since their jailing, members of the NDC who have described the four-month jail term as harsh, have mounted pressure on President John Mahama to pardon them or risk losing votes in the upcoming election.
