Montie 3 must be charged for death, harm threats – Osei Prempeh

A Former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice Kwame Osei Prempeh has revealed that the Montie 3 after their 4-month jail term could be prosecuted for threat of death and harm.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsuta Kwamang Beposo in the Ashanti Region disclosed on Abusua Nkommo that the trio was only convicted for contempt but the substantive issues of threat of death and harm could still be pursued.

“They were only jailed for interfering with the proceedings of the court but the substantive issue can still be pursued to its logical conclusion

If the NPP comes to power in 2017, we will pursue the case and ensure that the three are prosecuted for threat of death and harm. They threatened to rape the Chief Justice who is above 60 years and that should not be taken lightly”, he stated.

According to him, veracity of their threats could be equated to second degree felony and offenders in such instances could be slapped with a minimum jail term of 12 months or more depending on the judge.

Salifu Maase aka Mugabe, host of “Pampaso,” a political programme on an Accra-based radio station – Montie FM – together with Godwin Ako Gunn, 39 and Alistair Tairo Nelson, 41 were jailed four months aged each by the Supreme Court for contempt and ordered to pay GH¢ 10,000 each as fines or in default serve an additional month in jail for scandalizing the court.

Meanwhile pressure continues to mount President John Dramani Mahamaby his party to use his prerogative of mercy powers guaranteed under Article 72 to free the three.
