Month long Exhibition Opens At Novotel

Accra (GAR), July 3, A one-month exhibition of paintings by Kofi Agorsor, an artist, opened in Accra last night. The works, most of which touch on the chieftaincy institution in Ghana, are in two types; the distinct ones which feature bright colours and the abstract ones with dull colours. The African context plays strongly in the works with titles like “Yikayike for sale”, “Nananom”, “Adowa”, “Aya lolo” and “Zammrama market”. Opening it, Odeneho Oduro Numapau, member of the Council of State, said the fact that the chieftaincy institution features prominently in the works means creativity evolves around the time- honoured institution. He called for public support to enable the artist to attain world-wide recognition and create an environment where Ghanaians could be motivated for creativity in other fields of endeavour. Kofi Agorsor, who has exhibited in Botswana, South Africa, Benin and Cote d’Ivoire, said his inspiring spirit for this year is the chieftaincy institution. He appealed for financial support to enable him to hit the international scene. Born in Akatsi in the Volta Region, Agorsor is a product of the Ankle College of Art, Accra, and specialises in traditional themes in a tricky colourful language that borders on the abstract.
