MOFA established three piggery breeding pools

Kuntanase (Ash), Feb 1, GNA – The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has established three piggery breeding pools at Bebu, Yabi and Adwampong to serve as nucleus farms for the distribution of piglets to farmers interested in establishing pig farms.

Mr Gbamara Dery, the District Director of MOFA, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Kuntanase on Wednesday, said the success of the three pools would determine whether it should be extended to other places or not.

He said he was optimistic that the project, when sustained could supplement the incomes of farmers since most of them were subsistence farmers who remain dormant when the main farming season was over. Mr Dery said pigs which breed many piglets at short intervals could supplement the provision of meat and that food for feeding the pigs was readily available from the breweries and households.
