MOFA embarks on soya beans utilisation programmes

Aninangya (Ash), May 7, GNA- The Sekyere East directorate of Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has embarked on a programme to promote the use of Soya beans as the cheapest source of protein for households in the district.

The aim is to reduce the high protein deficiency levels, which had resulted in anaemic conditions especially among the children in the Ashanti region.

Mrs Mary Galley, Sekyere East District Director of MOFA, told the Ghana News Agency at Aninangya in the Afram Plains portion of the district after a programme for the community.

She said even though some of the farmers in the district cultivate Soya beans, they lacked knowledge of its usefulness.

Mrs Galley said the sensitisation programme was to encourage the people in the communities to supplement their daily meals with Soya beans to enable them to obtain the required protein nutrient in their bodies.

She said it was the aim of the directorate to encourage about 20 percent of the farmers in the area to cultivate and use Soya beans to increase their nutritional levels.
