Moderator urges Christians to help address needs of the poor

Kumasi, Feb 22, GNA – The Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has called on the church to intensify the spread of the Gospel to bring hope and comfort to the poor, depressed and oppressed.

It needs to work with renewed sense of mission, vigour and resilience to help address the ills and challenges in society. The Rt Rev Prof Martey was delivering the sermon at a special service held to mark the elevation of the Maakro Presbyterian Church, in Kumasi, to district status. He spoke on the theme 93Empowered by the Holy Spirit.” The Moderator reminded Christians that since they are agents of change= , they should remain focused and be guided by the Bible, as they worked to wi= n more souls for Christ. They should also mobilize resources to help the cause of mankind in th= e wake of unprecedented hunger, poverty and chaotic scenes around the world. He lauded the Maakro congregation for successfully going through the laid-down procedure to attain its new status.

He encouraged the leadership to remain committed to duty and help consolidate the gains made over the years. Rev Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery of the Church, spoke of the resolve of the Presbytery Council to support the Maakro Church at all levels to strengthen its structures. He asked the church to make good use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) facilities, to expand its work and mission, saying they must explore the internet, e-mails, faced book and mount billboards with scriptural verses for the growth of Christianity. 22 Feb. 11
