Mobile phone thief jailed 24 months

Sekondi, Dec. 19, GNA – A District Magistrate’s Court at Sekondi on Monday sentenced Papa Arhin of Sekondi to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing, causing unlawful damage and resisting arrest. He pleaded guilty. The case of the prosecution was that the accused and two accomplices now at large stole a mobile phone belonging to Kumi Ansah at the Albert Bosomtwi-Sam Fishing Harbour at Sekondi and sold it to a witness in the case for 500,000 cedis. The prosecution said at about 22:30 hours on November 26 this year, Ansah went to the fishing harbour to buy fish and while there, decided to relax on a fishing net.

According to the prosecution, Ansah fell asleep and the accused person who police described as a notorious and harden criminal and his two accomplices cut Ansah’s trousers pocket with a blade and stole his “NEC” camera mobile phone. The accused person and his accomplices then sold the phone to the witness who took it to the Police on realising that it was a stolen item. The prosecution said the accused person resisted arrest but admitted the offences in his cautioned statement to the Police.
