Mobile phone thief jailed 15 months.

Sekondi, Jan 18, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate Court on Monday sentenced Samuel Anane to 15 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a mobile phone valued at 900,000 cedis. He pleaded guilty to stealing.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Okyere said the accused and the complainant, Nii Noi, were friends and both lived at Kwesimintsim near Takoradi.

He said the accused took advantage of the absence of the complainant from home and stole his Siemens Mobile Phone. Sergeant Okyere said the accused hid the phone in his pocket and bolted.

He said Nii Noi made a report to the Police and the accused was arrested.

During Police interrogation, the accused admitted that he stole the phone but had sold it to a friend with no fixed address and place of abode for 100,000 cedis, which he spent, Sergeant Okyere said. He said investigations revealed that the accused was a member of a phone snatching syndicate operating in the Sekondi-Takoradi area.
