Fiapre B/A) Oct 20, GNA – The Fiapre Circuit Court on Monday sentenced one Sampson Yeboah to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing mobile phones and accessories valued at more than 73 million cedis in Sunyani.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry and stealing. The sentences are to run concurrently. His accomplices, Paul Morison and Osei Yaw, who were also charged with conspiracy to commit crime, stealing and abetment of crime, both pleaded not guilty and were remanded to reappear on October 29, 2004. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Yartey Tawiah told the court that Mr Johnson Kwaku Amponsah, who deals in mobile phones at Sunyani, detected that his mobile phone shop had been broken into through the ceiling and 50 pieces, phone batteries and phone housing stolen including 1.5 million cedis.
Mr Amponsah reported the theft to the police and alerted other mobile phone dealers to be on the look out for anyone who might offer any of the stolen phones for sale.
DSP Tawiah said Yeboah attempted to sell one of the stolen phones to a dealer and when it was detected that it was one of the stolen ones he abandoned it and escaped. Yeboah was arrested at Berekum when he was involved in another stealing case.
