Mobile phone thief fined 480 cedis

Inusah Seidu, a 26-year-old unemployed man has been fined GH¢480 or in default 2 years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing two mobile phones valued GH¢160.

He pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that, the complainant is the Chief Executive Officer of Ami Memorial Clinic in Tarkwa, while the accused has no permanent place of abode.

He said on May 21, between 1630 and 1700 hours, two Samsung and LG mobile phones valued GH¢80 each disappeared mysteriously in one of the offices of the complainant.

He said during the process of searching for the missing items, the accused was seen at the premises of the clinic and as his movement created suspicion, he was detained.

Inspector Paddy said when a search was conducted on the accused by a nursing sister, the stolen phones were found in his pocket.

He said at the police station, the convict tried to escape as he took to his heels but a sharp object pierced through his left foot and was rearrested.

Inspector Paddy said the accused in his caution statement admitted the offense and pleaded for mercy.**
