Mobila Replaced As Regional CPP chairman

Tamale, Oct. 30, GNA – Mr. Albert Atutiga, an educationist in Tamale has been elected the new Northern Regional chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) to steer the affairs of the party in the region towards the national elections in 2008.

Mr Atutiga, 50, polled 80 votes as against 59 to beat Mr Ibrahim Alabira, his only contender for the position in the election, supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr. Atutiga, who is also the proprietor of the Tamale Girls’ International School, (TAGIS) replaces the late Alhaji Issah Mobila, former chairman whose death in military custody in Kamina Barracks after the 2004 elections necessitated the election.

Dr. Edmund Delle, National Chairman of the Party, Mr. George Aggudy, CPP Presidential candidate in 2004 elections and Professor Nii Noi Dawuna, General Secretary of the party were present to ensure that the elections went on smoothly.

Mr. Atutiga called for unity among the rank and file of the party to ensure that the party wins power in the 2008 elections. He said voting for him to steer the affairs of the party in the region would not yield any result if they do not support him saying, “Everybody knows the NPP is going away and it is left for the CPP to work harder to replace the NPP in 2008”.

He paid a glowing tribute to Alhaji Mobila and that he would work harder to achieve what the late Mobila couldn’t finish, “I mean helping to remove the NPP out of power,” he explained.

Mr. Iddrisu Abu was also elected as second vice chairman. He polled 73 votes as against 60 to beat Alhaji Imoro Kpalkori for the position.

Dr. Edmund Delle swore the executives into office and advised them not to relent in any effort to ensure that there was total unity in the party.
