Mob action: Robbery suspect burnt

A 25-year-old man was, on the morning of Tuesday January 26, 2016, lynched and set alight at Kronom Afrancho in the Ashanti region for attempted robbery.

An assemblyman at the Offinso South district of the Ashanti Region, Philip Sarkodie-Addo, told Chief Jerry Forson on Accra100.5FM’s breakfast show ‘Ghana Yensom’ on Tuesday that the suspect was a known “armed robber” in the area, and was one of four young men, who had attempted to rob a lady of her belongings.

According to him, the three others escaped but the deceased was apprehended by locals and instantly beaten to death, after which the crowd torched his remains.

Mr Sarkodie-Addo said that the deceased was a known member of a notorious gang in the vicinity that ambushed market women at dawn, beat and robbed them of their monies, and sometimes raped them.

However, luck ran out for him on Tuesday at about 5:30am when an alarm raised by his latest victim drew the attention of residents, who pounced on him after an unsuccessful effort to escape with his three accomplices
