Mo Ibrahim Foundation launches photo competition

This week the Mo Ibrahim Foundation launched a photography competition that puts the spotlight on urbanisation in Africa.

The competition comes ahead of the Foundation’s annual Governance Weekend on 21-23 November in Accra, Ghana, during which the discussion forum will focus on the theme of “African Cities”.

“Snapping cities” invites Africans to capture urban life in Africa through their own lenses. Photographers of all abilities and ages are called upon to share their urban experience and capture inspiring ways in which cities are adapting to new lifestyles.

2014 Ibrahim Forum will explore innovation and solutions crucial to unlocking the potential of urban centres to act as engines of sustainable and equitable growth and development. In this context, “Snapping Cities” seeks to extend the conversation beyond the four walls of the Forum.

The competition will run until 10 October 2014, with submissions made to the Foundation’s website. The top three photographs will be awarded prizes of US$500, US$200 and US$100 respectively.

A selection of the best photographs will also be displayed at the Governance Weekend, where they will serve as inspiration and subject of discussion for prominent African political and business leaders, representatives from civil society, multilateral and regional institutions as well as Africa’s major international partners.
