Missionaries escaped being crushed underneath an articulated truck

Aflao, July 10, GNA – A group of foreigners identified as Christian Missionaries, on Tuesday narrowly escaped being crushed underneath a Lagos bound articulated truck, which fell on its side while allegedly avoiding potholes on the Aflao border.

Eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Salon car in which the missionaries were travelling, sped away from the path of the falling truck on the stroke of a second, to avoid being crushed underneath it.

That was the fifth pothole related accident there in one year, eyewitnesses told the GNA.

Extensive damage was caused to the rear of the truck and some of the goods it was carrying but its Nigerian driver and his two mates escaped unhurt.

The truck with registration number AA 515 MUS obstructed traffic flow compelling some drivers and passengers to construct a temporary by-pass to ease the traffic hold-up. The state of the Aflao border roads has become a topical issue in the area.

Mr Cephas Exeh, Secretary of the Progressive Transport Owners Association said the state of the Aflao border roads did not paint a good image of the country to foreigners. He said the situation has prompted transport and revenue agencies and individuals in the area to raise 3,000 Ghana cedis to remedy the situation.
