A member of the Council of State, Alhaji Asuma Banda has waded into the recent brouhaha that has characterized the passage of the CI 78 which is to give legal backing to the creation of additional 45 constituencies.
According to Alhaji Banda, there is nothing wrong with the creation of new constituencies adding that the several objections raised about the creation of the constituencies by the minority in Parliament is just political.
In an interview with XYZ News, Alhaji Banda said “I think it [new constituencies] is correct, the minority will argue for argument sake it is just politics”.
“They [minority] know the truth, they all have members contesting those constituencies and they are arguing that they don’t agree”.
“We are a very peaceful nation and I think that there would be a very peaceful election, this might even be the most peaceful election that we may ever have in this country”.
The business mogul also charged the government and the national security apparatus not to get complacent in the fight against drug trafficking.
Asuma Banda’s comment follows the recent cannabis and cocaine seizures in the UK which were on flights from Ghana.
Alhaji Banda told XYZ News that although the latest seizure won’t affect Ghana’s image internationally, efforts at clamping down on the operations of drug barons must be intensified.
“They [Government] have to redouble their efforts of tracing these things; there should be a system to check before the cargo moves.
“They [Government] have done very well to reduce it but when they relax it will get up again so they should never relax on their efforts”.
