Minority demands CVs of ministerial nominees

The Minority in parliament has expressed displeasure over the delay in getting them copies of the CVs of Ministers-designate ahead of vetting which begins on Friday January 20.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament, chaired by First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu, will screen Senior Minister-designate Yaw Osafo Marfo, National Security Minister-designate Albert Kan-Dapaah, Finance Minister-designate Ken Ofori-Atta and Defence Minister-designate Dominic Nitiwul on Friday, January 20.

The four are scheduled to face the committee on the first day.

However, Deputy Minority Leader, James Avedzi has said that he “can confirm that today by this time, which is past 12 o’clock, the Minority side, which is ready to do the vetting, regrettably does not have copies of the CVs of the four nominees who are to be vetted tomorrow [Friday, January 19]”.

According to him, the development is making the Minority side uncomfortable because they need the CVs to interrogate nominees’ experiences and skills to determine their suitability for their various portfolios.

“If they bring the CVs after this interview, how are we going to interrogate these CVs adequately in order to ensure that diligence and proper work is done tomorrow? That is the concern of the Minority.

“If the CVs do not get to the legislators by close of work Thursday, starting the vetting tomorrow is something that cannot be tolerated,” he told Joy FM.
