Most Minority members of Parliament on Friday called for the lifting of the curfew in Dagbon since it was seriously impoverishing the people of the area.
They said the people, apart from having their social lives regimented, economic activities in the area were grinding to a halt.
Alhaji Abubakar Sumani, NDC-Choogo/Tishigu, said, “the curfew should be reviewed because it has made us restless and poor. I am speaking the voice of the people.”
He said the people had largely supported the curfew because they believed that government would find a solution to the crises within the shortest period.
The member warned that Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) would claim many lives if the curfew were not reviewed since room temperatures were soaring “and now the people cannot sleep outside because they have been barred from doing so.”
“People in the area are used to sleeping outside during high temperatures” he said.
Mr Doe Adjaho, Minority Chief Whip, asked the presidency to endeavour to arrest all suspects since the two persons currently in lawful custody cannot bear the overall responsibility of the murder of all the thirty people.
He said altitude of government in the whole matter is creating the impression that it is supporting one of the factions.
The member quizzed the Presidency why the Yendi District Chief Executive was still at post when it is know that he is well appreciated by one of the factions.
Mr Cletus Avoka, NDC-Bawku West, called a for constant and vigorous dialogue with the Dagbon Traditional Council to accelerate the peace and reconciliation process.
He called for appointment of a substantive Northern Regional Minister who would be more forthcoming since the adhoc measures in place now do not augur well for the process.
Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, NDC-Kumbungu, said the Andanis would have attended the Akosombo consultative meeting if they were consulted well.
He said the curfew was not helping the peace building efforts in the area as it was making the people rather restless.
