Minor remanded for defilement

Kumasi, April 24, GNA – A Kumasi circuit court has remanded a 16-year-old plumber’s apprentice at Moshie-Zongo in Kumasi for indecently assaulting a seven-year-old day-nursery pupil. The accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge, will remain in custody for two months during which the police will complete investigating the case.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector John K. Afful told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that the victim lived in the same house with the accused.

On December 29, last year, the victim went to the accused person’s room to watch television and taking advantage of the quietness of the house, the accused placed the victim on his laps, inserted his fingers into her private part and fondled her.

The victim’s mother detected the following morning when she was bathing her that her private part had been tampered with. The victim confirmed to the mother what the accused did to her the previous night. A report was made to the police and the accused was arrested.
