Agona Swedru, Oct 8, GNA – A total of 400 school Children at the Minnesota Christian Academy primary in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region have received free dental treatment. The exercise which aims at reducing dental related problems among school children, was carried out by the Alpha and Omega Cares Dental, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based at Tema. The Rev Dr Godfrey Nunoo, Executive Director of the organization, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the exercise that the dental care was to cater for kids under one year to twelve years. He stated that the organization had rendered the same dental care to a total of 1,500 pupils at Sempe, Madina and Paloma primary schools in Accra.
The NGO distributed tooth brushes and tooth-paste to the Children at the Minnesota Christian Academy School. According to The Rev Dr Nunoo, 1,600 school children at Kofi Quaye near Nsawam Hills and eight other villages in the area had also been treated, adding that 300 children at Community 18 in Tema have been given dental care. He said the organization had spent over 5,000 dollars on the exercise. The Rev Dr Nunoo stated that in May this year, the NGO brought a team of doctors from Chiropractic College in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) to work at Korle Bu and 37 Military Hospital, and the Full Gospel Church in Tema.
Mrs Gloria Nunoo, a member of the medical team, said the NGO also donated medical equipment to Korle Bu and 37 Military hospitals, and also assisted people living with HIV/AIDS at various health facilities in Accra and Tema.
The Rev Kingsley Ayensu and Mrs Joyce Ayensu, proprietors of Minnesota Christian Academy School, and who are based in USA, expressed their appreciation to the NGO for the kind gesture. They assured the directors of the organization that school authorities would collaborate with parents t o ensure that children free themselves from dental problems. The Rev Ayensu said funds had been set aside for the construction of a hostel for senior High School students to stop them from residing outside the campus. He said the facility would also assist students from Akim Oda, Akim Wenchi, Winneba and Accra to have access to computer laboratory in the evening to study. 08 Oct. 09
