Koforidua, Oct 9, GNA – The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, is to create a division to be in-charge of private schools to ensure effective supervision and support for such institutions. To this end, the sector minister, Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, has directed the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) to submit names of all private schools to the ministry by the end of October.
The move would also enable the proprietors of private schools to access support from the ministry in terms of text-books, granting of loans at concessionary interest rate and other logistics. This was announced at a general meeting of the Eastern Regional branch of the GNAPS, at which the General Secretary of GNAPS, Mr Eric Justice Forson, inaugurated a five-member interim executive committee of the Association.
The Eastern Regional chairperson of the Association, Mrs Mercy Owusu Nimo, who administered the oath of office, advised the committee members to work hard to push the agenda of the group forward. Mrs Nimo reminded the members of the importance of private schools in national development and urged them to work hard to ensure quality education.
The Executive Committee has the Reverend Joseph Akpalu as its chairman, Mr Godfred Solomon, Vice-Chairman and Ms Dora Eghan, as the Secretary.
The others are Mr Ofori Acheampong and Mrs Comfort Mireku, financial secretary and treasurer respectively.
