Accra, July 21, GNA – Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development on Monday said the Ministry would continue to deal with non-performing contractors in accordance with the contractual provisions.
He warned: “We will not hesitate to terminate the contract of contractors and blacklist them if they fail to work within the terms of their contracts.”
Mr Adjei-Darko, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West was speaking after signing six contracts for the provision of consultancy services and supply of goods and equipment to the Ministry, under the urban four and five projects in Accra. Under the projects, which are being sponsored by the World Bank and the government, PHC Motors Ltd and Mechanical Lloyd would supply 20 BMC skip loader trucks 23 unit Ford cargo cesspit emptier trucks and other sanitary equipment to the Ministry at the total cost of 1,939,445 dollars.
Fairgreen Limited would also supply the Ministry with 15 sets of computers and their accessories at the cost of 26,670,000 dollars. The other contracts signed were in respect with the provision of consultancy services for Environmental and Social Assessment Study among others for the Ministry at the cost of 151,065.000 dollars.
Mr Adjei-Darko said the Consultancy Contract for the Odaw Lot Three Drainage Project and the Provision of Services financed by the Dutch government at the cost of 909,999 Euros formed part of an agreement ratified between SNC Lavalin and Interbeton to complete the final stretch of the 7.25 kilometers Odaw drainage work in Accra. He said all the six contracts were clear manifestation of the government’s commitment to improving environmental sanitation in urban areas.
Mr Adjei-Darko said the contracts would be executed with urgency and stated that with few exceptions, good supplied and service provided to the Ministry were delayed by clients.
He urged clients to work hard so that their contracts would not be terminated and thanked the donors for assisting Ghana to solve its environmental problems.
Mr Godfrey Ewool, Projects Director of the Ministry, warned that no shoddy work would be entertained and hoped that work would be properly executed to justify the confidence reposed in the contractors. He added that the trucks and equipment would be distributed to districts, which were benefiting from the urban four and five projects. Mr Paul Pepera of the PHC Motors, on behalf of the contractors assured the Ministry that they would provide good quality services and complete their work on schedule.
