Ministry releases C150bn to women

Accra, Dec. 22, GNA – The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs has so far released about 150 billion cedis to about 200,000 women as working capital throughout the country.
Mrs Gladys Asmah, Sector Minister, who announced this at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, said the Ministry tackled the micro-financing programme first because of their conviction that working women would take care of their children.
“All the problems of women and children have their roots in poverty. When a woman is working you will not need much effort to convince her to send the child to school.
“Effective poverty reduction holds the key to overcoming many of the problems which bedevil women and children”, she said. Mrs Asmah said the Ministry had in addition, organised training workshops for women in various sectors of the economy to improve their social, economic and political well-being.
