Ministry releases 59.7 billion cedis to assemblies

Accra, Dec. 25, GNA 96 The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has released 59.7 billion cedis from the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment said.

The statement signed by the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly would receive three billion cedis; Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly 2.4 billion cedis; Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly 2.1 billion cedis and Tamale Metropolitan Assembly 1.56 billion cedis.

It said the 10 Municipal Assemblies would receive 600 million cedis each while the 124 District Assemblies would receive 360 million cedis each.

The statement said the money was transferred to all MMDAs last Friday.
