Ministry provides litterbins to keep lorry stations clean

Sunyani, Dec. 18, GNA – The Brong Ahafo Regional Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has received 48 litterbins from the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, towards improving sanitation at lorry parks. Mr Ferguson Abgbenyegah, Deputy Municipal Environmental Health Officer, who presented the items on behalf of the Ministry, said all lorry stations in the Region would benefit from the bins to ensure that passengers and drivers would not litter the ground.

He said it was the aim of the Ministry to ensure environmental cleanliness at all lorry stations during and after next years African Cup of Nation’s tournament, adding that the Ministry took into consideration that lorry stations were first contact for visitors and football enthusiast enter the country and should therefore be maintained at all times.

Mr Abgbenyegah advised drivers and passengers to make good use of the bins to promote neatness at the various places they operated to avoid the outbreak of diseases. Mr Ben Kusi, Regional Vice-chairman of the GPRTU, thanked the Ministry for it concern and gave the assurance that the items would be put to good use to serve its purpose. Mr Kusi called on the public to desist from putting materials, which contain fire into the bins in order not to destroy them and urged residents around lorry parks not to carry rubbish from their homes to dump into the bins since it was not meant to serve the stations exclusively.
