Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – The Ministry of Foreign Affaires and Regional Integration in collaboration with stakeholders would organise a State-assisted funeral for the Ghanaian victims of the July 2005 killings in the Gambia on Friday, December 10 in Accra. A statement issued by the Ministry in Accra on Tuesday said the funeral would be held for the eight corpses brought to Ghana as well as those missing and presumed dead and thereafter appropriate compensation would be paid to family members.
“It is worth noting that the Government of the Gambia has done much to express regret for this unfortunate development which took place on its soil and has contributed significantly both in cash and in kind to the arrangements put in place to bring a fitting end to this tragic episode”, it added.
The statement said the funeral to be held at the forecourt of the State House to be followed by interment at the Osu Cemetery. “The Government of Ghana remains committed to the resolution of this matter in an expeditious and respectful manner in order to bring closure to this tragic incident”, it said. 7 Dec. 10
