Ministry of Energy, Hohoe District Assembly to construct Hydro Power Plant

Hohoe (V/R), May 22, GNA – The Hohoe District Assembly is collaborating with the Ministry of Energy to construct a mini hydro power plant at Alavanyo-Tsatsadu on the Tsatsadu waterfall near Hohoe. Mr John-Peter Amewu, Hohoe District Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency on Monday that feasibility studies and civil design drawings had been completed and contract would be awarded soon.

He said environmental impact assessment of the project was underway to establish its environmental viability, regulation and management. Mr Amewu said when completed, the project would be the first of its kind in the country and would supplement the energy requirements of the district, in addition to its potential to attract tourists into the area.

He said local capacity would be built towards the management and operation of the project, which would be funded jointly by the Governments of Ghana and India, under a bilateral agreement. He could however not give the cost of the project, which he said would take-off in July, this year.
