Ministry of Education mourns Osei-Kwaku

Accra, Sept. 15, GNA – The Ministry of Education and Sports on Thursday paid glowing tribute to the Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Edward Osei-Kwaku, who died in a motor accident on Tuesday, saying his death is a tragic loss to the whole nation. In a statement issued in Accra, the Ministry said it received with utter disbelief and shock the announcement of the death of the Former Mnister.

“The Ministry of Education and Sports wishes to acknowledge the diligent and matured manner in which the late Mr Osei-Kwaku ran the then Ministry of Youth and Sports between 13th November 2001 and 17th April, 2003.

“Indeed, it is acknowledged that during the tenure of the late Mr Osei-Kwaku, he laid a solid foundation for Ghana sports to blossom.” The statement said the formation of a Sports Development Committee to propose a strategic plan for Ghana sports and a new Sports Bill to cater for a modern system as well as Ghana’s bid to host CAN 2008 were part of the major landmarks during Mr Osei-Kwaku’s tenure.

The Ministry said Mr Osei-Kwaku distinguished himself as a lawyer, Member of Parliament and Minister in the service of his community and nation.

It expressed its condolence to the bereaved family on the death of “this fine noble gentleman”.
