Ministry of Defence presents vehicles to Ashanti REGSEC

Kumasi, Sept 8, GNA – The Ministry of Defence (MOD) on Thursday presented seven Nissan and Mitsubishi pick-ups to the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to augment its operations. The vehicles are to boost the “Operation Calm Life” a joint military-police operation to combat armed robbery and other criminal activities in the region.

Colonel Opoku Adusei, Director of Operations of the Ghana Armed Forces who presented the vehicles, expressed concern about the upsurge of criminal activities in the region.

He cited the incidence at Fanti New Town and the murder of a Methodist lay preacher by armed robbers at Boadi near KNUST and said the vehicles would enhance the operations of the patrol team to bring peace and security to the region.

Colonel Adusei mentioned Obuasi, Asante-Mampong, Ejura, Aboabo, Ashtown and the Railway areas as some of the flashpoints in the region. He appealed to the public to furnish the security agencies with the needed information and co-operate with them to halt criminal activities in the region.

Colonel Adusei asked the troops not to indulge in acts that could thwart their operations.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister who received the keys to the vehicles thanked the Ministry for the support that would boost the moral of the patrol team. He warned criminals and their collaborators that they would not be spared and that REGSEC would continue to explore avenues to provide logistics to support the patrol team.
