The Education Ministry says it will investigate the findings of a survey that made an alarming revelation about the growing incidence of sexual abuse in schools.
NGO Action Aid Ghana has revealed that many teenage girls in remote areas in the capital are sexually harassed on daily basis in schools.
According to the research, between 12 to 15 out of every 200 pupils in areas like Amasaman and Abokobi have been sexually abused.
Public Relations Officer at the Education Ministry Paul Krampah tells XYZ News the GES has a policy that frowns upon sexual abuse in schools.
“Teachers are not expected to have amorous relationships with their students and then the students too are not allowed to engage in sexual activities in and out of school,” he said.
He said if the Ministry finds out that the situation true on the ground then very serious actions will be taken to address the matter.
Mr Kampah said the ministry will not hesitate to sanction teachers who abuse their pupils.
“If you are a teacher and you engage in sexual activities with your students, there are sanctions. You can even be dismissed because we frown on such nefarious activities,” he said.
