Ministry concludes arrangement for payment of salary arrears

The Ministry of Education has finalised arrangements for the release of over four billion cedis in respect of salary arrears for junior and senior staff of the universities.

The payment of the arrears became necessary as a result of a 15 per cent salary adjustment to the staff of the universities from May to October 2001.

The Ministry of Finance, in a letter dated October 26, 2001 authorised the Controller and Accountant-General to release the amount to the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) for disbursement to the universities.

The beneficiary institutions are: Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, University College of Education, Winneba, University for Development Studies and the Dental School.

The rest are University of Ghana Medical School, Noguchi Memorial Institute, School of Administration and University of Ghana.

It is expected that the affected staff would receive the arrears before Friday, October 9, 2001
