Ministry commends Kikam students for peaceful demonstration

Accra, Dec. 16, GNA- The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports on Tuesday commended the students of Kikam Technical Institute in the Nzema East District of the Western Region for their exemplary conduct in staging a peaceful demonstration.

“Indeed, the students led by their spokesperson, Master Benjamin Quansah, not only walked a distance of 19 kilometres from the school to Axim, the District capital, but also conducted themselves in a civilised way that ended the demonstration peacefully”.

A statement from the Ministry issued in Accra on Tuesday said, in choosing to walk the 19 kilometres to present their petition on their grievances to the District Chief Executive and to listen to his appeal to them to maintain peace and order on campus whilst the District Administration took the necessary steps to investigate and address their grievances, the students had proved that with a little bit of circumspection students would follow laid down procedures for the presentation and resolution of their grievances.

“We in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports congratulate them for their unique and exemplary conduct and hope that all students in both our second cycle and tertiary institutions would learn and emulate the good conduct of the students of Kikam Technical Institute to bring honour to themselves and the nation as a whole”, the statement said.
