Ministerial meeting to decide on sale of low cost houses

Ho, Aug 02, GNA – A ministerial meeting on Public Sector Reforms to be held August 5 will decide on the sale of public sector low cost houses, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, the Minister of State Responsible for Public Sector Reforms, has said.

He said it is the policy of government to sell those houses but the only problem was with the implementation of the policy. Dr Nduom said this at a meeting with civil servants from the Greater Accra and Volta regions on Public Sector Reforms in Ho on Monday. He said house ownership by public servants on retirement was high on the agenda of the Public Sector Reforms.

Dr Nduom said one of the proposals he would table at the ministerial meeting would be to convert into cash benefits such as housing, utilities and transportation due to some categories of public and civil servants ”to save the system some money and allow the employees better pay and better pension.”

On how equities in salaries and wages in the civil and public services would be maintained under the reforms, Dr Nduom said a permanent body would be established to monitor the situation and effect checks and adjustments to reflect what others are doing.

He said the effectiveness of the body would depend on complains and information it would receive from aggrieved public institutions.
