The Minister of Education, Dr Christina Amoako- Nuama, today urged the private sector to join hands with the government to make the quest for quality education a reality. She said this is because the demand for education has been on the rise as a result of rising population, but government’s resources are limited. She was speaking in Accra when she launched the Ghana section of World Links Development Programme, a World Bank distance learning project, for second cycle schools. The programme, which is learning through information technology, aims at establishing education on-line communities through the use of the internet for secondary school students and teachers to exchange ideas and experiences with their counterparts around the world. Dr Amoako-Nuama said the Ministry of Education is putting in place a computerised Education Management Information Systems (EMIS) which is being used on pilot basis involving networking of the ministry and the Ghana Education Service headquarters, three regional offices, and four district offices of education. The network will be for collection and dissemination of information that will allow better management of educational resources as well as assist educators and students to interact with their counterparts and other schools through the use of the latest information technology. ”It is therefore gratifying to note that the current initiative by the World Links for Development Programme is going to complement our efforts by laying the necessary foundation in our senior secondary schools”.
