Minister urges Apremdo to unite for development

Apremdo (W/R), Sept. 7, GNA – Mr Anthony E. Amoah, Western Regional Minister, said government would build three mini-hydro electric dams in the Western Region to accelerate development of the area. Mr Amoah said the dams would be built on the Pra, Tanoso and Ankobra rivers to generate electrical power to augment existing power generating facilities.

He was addressing a durbar of Chiefs and people of Apremdo, near Takoradi on Saturday.

Mr. Amoah said the decision of the people of Apremdo to unite for development was laudable and that it would enhance their developmental efforts.

He urged the newly crowned divisional chief of the area to unite the people and lead them to undertake development projects. “In unity lies our strength as a people and we must work hard to sustain it, irrespective of the cost”.

Nana Egya Kwamina XI, the new Divisional Chief, said his priority was to reconcile various factions and chart a new developmental agenda for Apremdo.

He said disunity in the past had led to a high incidence poverty and under-development in the area.

Nana Kwamina said a fund would be established to provide resources for children in the area to pursue quality education. “As a community, we must mobilise every resource we have and solicit from other sources for the good of the community.” He said there was the need to promote the establishment of private and other educational facilities in the community to open it up for more children to enrol. Nana Kwamina said funds must be sourced to support small and medium scale operators in the community, to improve their lot and thereby reduce unemployment rate in the area. 7 Sept. 08
