Minister supports equipping of teachers with managerial skills

Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, Eastern Regional Minister, has proposed that teachers should be equipped with managerial skills to be better placed to produce qualified and disciplined students for the country.

He said government acknowledges the pivotal role teachers play in the development of the country and as such would do its best to improve the profession through incentives.

Mr Antwi-Bosiako was speaking at the opening of the 19th Annual Delegate’s Congress of the Eastern and Greater Accra sectors of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) at Somanya.

The congress was organised on the theme: “Equipping the teacher-trainee with managerial skills for better life, the role of the stakeholders.”

Mr Antwi-Boasiako said government attaches much interest to the education sector, hence the commitment of one-third of the nation’s budget to the area.

He said most prominent people in the world today were mentored by teachers.

Mr Simon Wilberforce Kwami Tsadidey, Administrator for Colleges of Education, observed that, equipping teacher-trainees with managerial skills would make them successful individuals, qualified professional teachers and successful members of the society.

He urged teachers to set standards for measuring success in education as their contribution to the development of the country.

Mr Jacob Ladzekpo, the President of the Eastern and the Greater Accra Sector of TTAG, cautioned teacher-trainees to be time conscious to help their students to achieve academic excellence.
