Koforidua, Aug 10, GNA – The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr
Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has said the government would not witch-hunt its
political opponents but would ensure that people who had held public
office accounted for their stewardship. He was speaking at the dedication of the St. Dominic Catholic
Church building at Adweso near Koforidua on Sunday. The church building, which was an all purpose hall of the church, was modified at the cost of 132, 00 Ghana cedis to serve as the parish
church building. Mr Ofosu-Ampofo commended the Catholic Church for its role in education and health sectors and said the church not only concerned with the spiritual needs of its members but also set aside some of its funds for
the care of needy members. He said the Regional Security Council in collaboration with the Police
command had taken measures to ensure that the security agents got closer to the citizens at night to fight armed robbery and appealed to the church
to support these efforts with prayers. In a sermon the Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, Most Rev. Joseph
Afrifa-Agyekum, appealed to the members of the parish to learn from the
Patron Saint of the Church, St. Dominic, who worked very had and dedicated all his work to God. He expressed the appreciation of the Catholic Church to all those who contributed towards the completion of the church. Most Rev. Afrifa-Agyekum said church buildings were supposed to be kept open throughout the day so that anybody could walk in and pray but due to stealing and robbery, the doors of church buildings were often locked when services were not in place.
