Tamale, Sept 3, GNA – Nii Amassah Namoale, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, has appealed to planning committees of the National Farmers’ Day and Ghanaians in general not to politicise the event. He said the occasion was in recognition and in honour of farmers who had over the years been sustaining the country through their contributions to food security.
Nii Namoale said this when he led a 10-member team of the National Planning Committee for the National Farmers’ Day to a meeting with the local planning committee in Tamale on Thursday. Members of the Planning Committee from the national headquarters included Mr. Fuseini Alidu, Director of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Comfort Nyanyu, Chairperson for welfare sub-committee, M. Richard Donkor, Chairman for site and Mr Emmanuel Odane Chairman for publicity. Others were Mrs. Victoria Tsekpo for exhibition and Mr. Alfred Benjamin Appiah, Coordinator, National Farmers’ Day.
The meeting between the two planning committees was to enable them share ideas on how to effectively coordinate their activities to ensure the successful hosting of the silver jubilee celebrations of the National Farmers Day slated for the first Friday of December in Tamale. This year’s celebration is on the theme: “Accelerated agricultural modernisation for food security and economic transformation”. Nii Namoale appealed to the local organising committee to ensure that local businesses benefited from the event by providing them room to market and sell their products.
Mr. Moses Mabengba, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, w Chairman of the local organising committee, assured the National Planning Committee that the region would do all it could to make the celebration memorable. He suggested that in future ample time should be given to local organising committees to enable them plan in advance to reduce the haste and stress on members of the committees.
