The Education Ministry has rejected calls to sanction aggrieved teachers for embarking on strike.
Some analysts have called for the salaries of teachers to be frozen as part of punitive measures for embarking on an illegal strike.
But Education Minister Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has told XYZ News that her outfit is not considering sanctioning the striking teachers for the fun of it.
Although she is unhappy about the refusal of the teachers to call off their strike, the Former Vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, said it will take continuous dialogue to resolve the impasse.
“I don’t think it’s a question of applying punitive measures for the fun of it; In every profession there are ethics and rules of the game and members are educated to abide by those rules and the sanctions apply when members do not abide by the rules,” the former Vice Chancellor said.
She added that “it would just be the rules that would be applied, so I don’t think it is a questioning of strategizing to sack somebody or to withhold somebody’s salary.
“I think that it is a question of the ruling that has come from the National Labour Commission and the consequences of abiding or not abiding by it,” she added.
