Minister presents relief items to victims of Adjei Kojo rainstorm

Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has presented relief items to some residents of Adjei Kojo near Ashaiman, who were affected by a severe rainstorm that hit the town on May 19.

The items included 20 packets of roofing sheets, three bales of second-hand clothing, mattresses, buckets and cups.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo who is also the parliamentary candidate for Tema West on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed sympathy for the victims and charged the assemblyman for the area to ensure the fair distribution of the items.

He used the occasion to advise residents of the town to guard against the indiscriminate construction of structures and assured the victims of NADMO’s assistance in due course.

Madam Yaa Larweh, one of the victims who received the items on behalf of those affected, thanked the Minister for the kind gesture.

The Minister later visited one of the victims, Master Elias Tamakloe, a nine-year-old class four pupil who sustained injuries on the head and on the left leg during the disaster and wished him a speedy recovery.

On Saturday May 19, a severe rainstorm hit Adjei Kojo during which about 120 of residents either had the roofs of their buildings ripped off or building destroyed.**
