Minister pledges more vehicles for Police

Accra, July 24, GNA – The Ghana Police Service has signed a contract with Messrs Mechanical Lloyd to rehabilitate about 100 broken down Land Rovers of the Service.

Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Minister for The Interior announced this in Parliament on Thursday. Mr Mohammed Jagri, NDC-Zabzugu/Tatale had asked him the Police Station at Chereponi and Nadowli would be provided with means of transportation to enable the officers to perform their duties efficiently.

The Minister said rehabilitation work was currently on-going and that the Chereponi and Nadowli Police Stations would be provided with one each within the next month or two when the first batch of the repaired Land Rovers were delivered.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang said he hoped that when the two vehicles were provided to the stations it would enable the Police officers to perform their duties more efficiently.

He said currently the Ghana Police Service had about 400 vehicles on the road and that 500 more vehicles would be needed to make the service mobile and more efficient.
