Minister orders demolishing of toilet

Accra, May 25, GNA – Sheikh Ibrahim C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister, on Tuesday ordered the immediate demolishing of a 12-seater aqua privy toilet that had become a death trap for residents at Pig Farm in Accra.

There was an explosion in the toilet during the early hours of Tuesday and three persons, who were using the facility at the time, were injured.

Mr Sylvester Kwakye, Assembly Member for the Kotobabi Electoral Area, told the Ghana News Agency, that others, who had queued for their turn, rushed the injured to the 37 Military Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

When the GNA visited the scene, volunteers from the community were clearing the debris, while six mobile toilets had been placed at the site as an interim measure.

Mr Kwakye said the Minister ordered the demolishing to facilitate its replacement adding that the toilet, which was built in 1986, served about a thousand people.

He commended the residents for helping to save the situation after the disaster and urged them to take good care of the mobile toilets.
