Minister inspect roads in Eastern Region

Koforidua, Nov 23, GNA – The Minister of State at the Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Godfrey Bayoun, on Friday inspected some roads under construction in the New Juaben Municipality and the Kwahu West District. The projects were the nine-kilometer Koforidua/Oyoko by-pass being executed by China Water and Electric Company at a cost of 2.8 million Ghana cedis and an over-pass on a section of the road to pave way for the railway line estimated at 380,000 Ghana Cedis. The dual carriage by-pass is expected to be completed in September 2008.

The Eastern Regional Deputy Minister, Mr Ofosu Asamoah and the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwasi Adjei Boateng, accompanied the Minister of State.

The team also inspected the Effiduase Junction/Asokore Kuma road and the Korle Nkwanta road estimated at 400,000 GH. cedis. being executed by Opanyin Ayeh Construction Company Limited, a Koforidua-based construction firm.

The minister later inspected the 6.5 kilometre Nkawkaw- Obomeng road under construction.

The 6.5-kilometer road being funded by the Government of Ghana at 2.7 million Ghana cedis is expected to be completed in November 2008. Mr Bayoun said his ministry would not entertain any shoddy work from any contractor and that the ministry would not hesitate to terminate the contract of any contractor who performed below expectation.
