Minister in dilemma …

As Haruna runs on NDC ticket

ALHAJI MUSTAPHA Idris, Minister of Works and Housing, is now in a dilemma over which of the three constituencies of the Tamale metropolis he should run for as the Member of Parliament on the slot of the New Patriotic Party. This paper can report that other NPP contestants are avoiding Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the national youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Haruna, who filed his NDC nomination for Tamale South Constituency and was declared unopposed as the candidate for the area is being seen as a threat to the NPP contestants, who would want to vie for the MP seat in the area.

According The Chronicle Intelligence report, all the NPP aspirants, including the minister, are afraid of a humiliating defeat that may befall them should they challenge the NDC youth in the December elections.

The people of Tamale after hearing that Haruna Iddrisu had launched his campaign last Saturday at Nyohini and Sagnerisu and received a rousing welcome amid a charged political terrain, told him to go to bed and sleep or better still be sworn in as MP for the area, since the minister and others cannot declare their stand.

Reports say though Alhaji Mustapha has filed his nomination at Tamale South, he is currently dodging Haruna, who has also filed on the ticket of NDC at the same constituency. Alhaji Mustapha, The Chronicle learnt, had gone to Tamale Central to avoid a humiliating defeat.

Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, when reached on his phone in Tamale yesterday, said that his unopposed stand and the people?s call that he should be sworn in as MP for the area confirms his ability and competence to represent the people at the national assembly.

?I have seen that the people of Tamale want me to represent them at the national assembly. The call is to encourage me to concentrate on my work as national youth organizer and that I need not campaign because the seat is already secured,? Haruna noted.
