Minister heads delegation to Switzerland

Accra, Jan. 13, GNA – Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister for Women and Children Affairs has left Accra by air at the head of an eight-member delegation for Geneva, Switzerland.

A statement issued and signed by Mr. Fred Essilfie, Public Relation Officer of MOWAC said the delegation is to participate in the 41st Session of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Rights of the Child, scheduled for January 9-27, 2006.

Some of the issues to be discussed at the conference include Ghana’s Child Rights reports submitted to the committee much earlier on which our delegation is expected to defend for acceptance.

Other members of the delegation include Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN; Mr Paul K. Aryene, Deputy Permanent Representative; Mrs. Marilyn Amponsah Annan; Director International Desk Children, MOWAC; Mrs. Mary Amadu, National Director, Department of Social Welfare and Dr. Isabella Sagoe-Moses, National Child Health Coordinator, Ghana Health Service.

The rest are Mrs. Estelle Appiah, Director Drafting Section, Ministry of Justice and Attorney General’s Department; Mrs. Matilda Bannerman-Mensah, Head of Girl Child Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports; Mr Sylvester Kyei Mensah, Senior Research Officer, Ghana National Commission on Children (GNCC) and Mrs. Doris Richter, First secretary, Ghana Permanent Mission.
