Minister deplores low internal revenue generation

Nkoranza, Sept 5,GNA – Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, has appealed to district assemblies to step up their internal revenue generation instead of relying on government grants. In a speech for him at the second ordinary meeting of the fourth session of Nkoranza District Assembly, he said the assemblies could execute more development projects with internally generated revenue. He said the government’s commitment to develop social services in rural communities made it imperative for Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to ensure that the people paid their taxes to support the development of their areas.

Mr Baffour-Awuah expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Nkoranza District Assembly as regards internal revenue generation and called on opinion leaders including assembly members and unit committees to encourage the people to pay their levies and taxes. He urged the assembly to emulate Techiman Municipal and Kintampo District assemblies “who have chalked remarkable success in internal revenue mobilisation”.

Mr Adjei Yeboah, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, congratulated the assembly members for their unity and co-operation and urged them to maintain the spirit towards the accelerated development of the district.
