Minister denies importation of tricycles

The minister for local government and rural development Charles Bintim says media reports suggesting that his ministry has imported tricycles from China are inaccurate.

A local manufacturer of tricycles has been waging a campaign for the ministry to purchase the tricycles in the country.

Mr. Bintim says the ministry cannot import materials to be used to be used for garbage collections in Accra and Kumasi without the participation of local agencies.

He said the media reports attributed to him were taken out of context.

? Even if the ministry wanted to buy tricycles, we will buy it through an agency. We can?t get up as a ministry and go to China to buy tricycles. That is never done, by the laws of the state we are not permitted to do that, ? he said.
